Choose your own adventure!

One of the annoying things about the internet is that every time I seem to have a new idea I Google it and find out that someone has thought of it already first. I thought I had invented edible cutlery at one point but found I was sadly mistaken...

Anyway, remember those old books where you could choose your own adventure, the ones that had alternate story lines and endings based on the decisions you made. I thought to myself you could actually create a text adventure collaboratively using a Wiki, it would be perfect way to do as well because there would be no pouring through the book for entry 529 and, if you weren't happy with the decisions available to you, you could write a new story path.

It turns out that, as usual, by searching the internet I find out that my ideas aren't as original as I thought. Someone has already developed a website specifically for making your own text adventures, it is called protagonize: interactive fiction & collaborative story writing community. Sadly the content on protagonize is generally awful, it's another reminder that execution is everything on the internet, it really doesn't matter how good your idea is.
