This is my latest entry to Illustration Friday a homage to television of the 80's.
In the 80's there was something of a golden era of awful children's TV. On the one hand you had homoerotic, muscle bound He-Man and then on the other you had My Little Pony. It was a potent combination that encouraged children to have a healthy understanding of what it meant to be a girl or a boy.
So here's my tribute to those sickenly sweet happy lands of candy cane and lollipops where the rivers flow with sugar syrup.

Nice Homage. The pony does not look too intelligent which is quit appropriate. The 80's were filled with those cartoons we love to hate. Most of them were just marketing campaigns designed to get kids to buy more toys. It was like the toy companies designed a toy and thought of some crap story to push there toy on us kids. It worked well and has ushered in a new era of cartoon crapdom.

Very cute illustration. And nice take on the theme. Yes, it WOULD be hazardous to be beneath THAT little pony. Ha! Funny!

Thanks for all the replies, glad it made you all laugh! I'm quite pleased with this piece and I think I managed the capture the colour and feel of those old cartoons.

As a connoisseur of the period, I’m delighted to see you chose to represent the earlier models of My Little Ponies. They were larger and bulkier, more like real horses than the later matchstick leg versions. When I was 8, the change came through and my older ponies no longer matched the newer ones. Thus the older ponies were forced to become male by means of thick Play Doh eyebrows. Makes me wonder how many other members of the My Little Pony transgendered community there were.
Very cute illustration!
