Spotted this chap in the garage trying to keep out of the torrential rain. In my ignorance I thought that Toad's liked the water... as you can see he looks quite annoyed about whole experience.

Weekend Illustrations

It's been a nice weekend so I set up my drawing board in the garden and spent a good few hours doing these.

Birthday Cards

My Dad and Uncle both have birthdays in early June so, as usual, I drew them a card each. I won't attempt to explain them in any detail because they are quite personal.

My Uncle's card is fairly obtuse unless you know him and his obsession with amplifiers.

Bee bothering

I have had the day off today and it has given me the chance to take things a bit more slowly. The fairly rigid week day routine means that I don't always stop to notice small things. So I made a concerted effort to spend some time looking around the garden. Down at the bottom of the garden I found bumblebees feeding off the lupins. There were around six of them of different varieties, some with long mouths for sucking out the nectar. I grabbed my camera and took a few shots, it was quite difficult. I would hold the camera close to the bees for a close up then jerk my hand back every time it looked like they were about to move. Luckily they were much too happy where they were to attack me en masse.

It's a raining outside. The typical British Summer is back again. I drew this to cheer myself up with a bit of eye candy - I'm quite pleased with the use of colour on this one and I think the background does give a very real impression of movement.

Illustration Friday: Poise

This week I actually have two entries for illustration Friday. This time I decided to do a bit of research on google image search - there were two 'iconic' images that came up on the subject of poise.

The first was the line up of people showing different postures - I found this was a good quick exercise in character drawing I kept the colour palette limited to grey black and red as this matched many of the information diagrams that showed peoples poise.

The second recurring image representing poise was women balancing books on their heads at old fashioned 'finishing schools'.
